In this post: Having difficulty getting it together in the mornings? Start a healthy morning routine with these ideas. This might just be the answer you’re looking for to give you the drive to kick-start your day.

I rolled over and hit the snooze button again this morning. Then when I finally manage to part ways with my bed, I realize that I’m halfway behind my scheduled time to prepare for work. Might I add, for the second time this week?

A morning routine is made up of a pattern of usual activities. These activities are performed every morning and allow you to get to an effective, purposeful rhythm.

These habit-forming activities set the tone for the rest of your day. When you are motivated you will be more productive, and more mindful. On top of that, it will also encourage you to be positive and therefore help you to stay on top of your day.

These habits are important because without them you might be hit with feeling crabby or you’ll also go about your day without being mindful of your actions.

Here’s the thing though, I cannot tell you what your morning routine should look like.  It should be tailor-made for you and you are the only person who can decide what actions you want to include.

So, any activity or activities that you need to fit into your morning before work or school should be included. As long as it is meaningful and helps you to maintain a healthy body and mind.

Another vital factor to take into consideration is the order of each activity for your morning routine. This is totally up to you. It should be what makes sense and works for you.

There is only one rule of thumb, and that is, social media cannot be the first order of the day. Social media first thing in the morning can turn your day upside down and manipulate you, without you even being aware of it.

If your current habits are leaving you mentally, physically and emotionally drained then start a morning routine. One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is some “me” time.

You can accomplish so much more if you get up a bit earlier.

Start off with getting up 15 minutes and add 2-3 priorities. Then once you have mastered the habit of getting up 15 minutes earlier bump up your time and add another 15 mins.

With this half an hour now available to you you can add more activities to your list of priorities.

1. Prep The Night Before

If you prep the night before it will be one less decision that you will have to deal with in the morning.  It gives you more time to be more productive.

You could select your outfit for the next day, the night before. It could be your clothes for work, school, or your workout gears. Prepare your lunch and if possible your breakfast the night before. When you do that, you have one less thing to figure out in the morning.

2. Set Your Alarm

This is one of the first steps to include in your morning routine. It is from this step that you will be able to carry out the other activities.  You can either use the old-school, no-nonsense alarm clock or a more subtle alarm on your phone.

Get in the habit of being consistent with the time you wake up.  It doesn’t matter what alarm you choose. Just make sure it’s one that you’re comfortable with but is also effective.  In this way, you will be less likely to hit the snooze button.

3. Make Your Bed

4. Devotion

So without planning to, you end up skipping your exercise session that day.

You need to put exercise at the top of your list if you are serious about your health and overall well-being. Schedule it if you must and be disciplined enough to stick with it.

If you get up early, then you will have ample time to fit it in.  You can start with at least 30 minutes per day at least 3 times per week.

Whether it’s walking, running or hitting the gym, make every effort to find time to exercise. Whatever form it takes, incorporate it on a regular basis.

Our bodies need fuel in order to function and eating food provides that fuel. When you eat a healthy breakfast it helps you to concentrate.

You might be surprised to know that, if your stomach is always growling and you’re constantly being hit by pangs of hunger, there is no way you can keep focused in such situations. All you can think about is food!

Eating breakfast gives you that added boost and focus at the beginning of the day. It also helps prevent brain fog and staves off grouchiness.

Try, as much as you can to have a wholesome breakfast. Give the boot to cereals that are loaded with sugar.  Whole foods like eggs, oatmeal, smoothies, avocados, fruits and nuts are just some of the foods that you can include in your breakfast.
