Who doesn’t want to be healthier? Gosh, I know I do.  We are all trying to have a healthier life.

Well, guess what? There are some adjustments that you can make to be healthier, without overhauling your entire lifestyle or even realizing that you are doing anything different.

When you are healthier you will function at your optimum in every facet of your life.

So, if you are looking to make some changes towards a healthier life, these small tweaks can make a big impact. Over time, you will feel healthier and be healthier.

Drink More Water

Yes! you really need to drink more water. There are so many benefits of drinking water. I know it can be irritating when everyone keeps saying drink more water.

Not to mention the fact that after drinking all that water there will be more trips to the bathroom.

Your body is made up of mostly water and it needs to be maintained by drinking enough water. If you don’t, then your organs will protest and start to malfunction. Mind you, not all at once but in the long run.

You really don’t have to wait until you are thirsty to drink water. Take sips every 10-15 minutes throughout the day.  You’ll know you’ve had enough when your urine runs clear.

Have a Healthy Breakfast

Give the boot to sugary cereals and pastries for breakfast. Make healthier choices like smoothies, fresh fruits, oatmeal, and eggs just to name a few.

It is also important that you try to reduce your intake of processed foods. Foods with Fiber keeps you fuller for a longer period of time.

So get creative and include and combine some of these foods for a healthy breakfast.

Dessert Alternatives

Save yourself the guilt of empty calories and get some nutrients from your dessert instead.

You can put frozen ripe bananas or a combination of frozen fruits in the food processor and whip up a yumcious treat.

Greek yogurt is also a great alternative. It has the same texture as ice cream just add some toppings like chocolate bits or fresh fruits, seeds or nuts, and the best part? These are all guilt-free.

Meats and Fish

fish and vegetables

Choose white meat instead of red meat.  If you think that you can’t live without red meat, then try to eat it less often and choose lean cuts.

The thing is, white meat and red meat are both similar in protein but white meat tends to have less saturated fat.

Lean chicken or turkey, as well as fish, are more wholesome to eat. Additionally, every dish that uses red meat you can pretty much substitute it with another meat.

Snacks

Keep snacks on hand to help you make healthy choices. There are tons of satisfying and healthy snacks such as nuts, granola bars, oranges, ripe bananas, grapes and dried fruits such as raisins (you get the idea).

These little treats can be used for those times when you are really hungry. And since you already have it on hand, it removes the temptation of making poor choices.

So make sure that you do not get so hungry and not have a backup snack on hand. If that happens then you will be enticed and it will be hard to resist unhealthy choices.

Exercise

A lot of us have some really intense work schedules that keep our brain in overdrive and at the end of the day, your brains are fried.  It is crucial that we make some ‘me time’ to exercise the mind as well as the body.

You don’t have to have a gym membership in order to exercise. You can exercise right in your own home.

If you don’t know where to start, check online. There are lots of videos and apps right at your fingertips.

Think about it, with all those joints in your body, it was made to move!  Your mind and body will thank you.

So, instead of being on social media all the time, ok….not all the time but most of the time, stimulate your mind and exercise the brain.

Reading, crossword puzzles or even a podcast on a daily basis are excellent ways to fire up the brain.

Your brain workout could even be when you wind down, during your lunchtime or on the bus ride to or from work. Board games with your friends and family are all great additions.

Sugar Intake

There is no denying that sugar does make things taste better.  Some of us tend to go overboard with the sugar intake in our diet without even realizing it, while some of us throw caution to the wind and just let loose on the sugar.

On the other hand, some people avoid sugar like the plague and I don’t blame them because it’s with good reason.

When you consume excessive amounts of sugar, your health can be severely compromised and the aftermath is no joke.

It could result in weight gain, type 2 diabetes, cancer, increased risk of heart disease, inflammation, not to mention cavities and nobody wants those.

There are so many foods that are loaded with added sugar, so make sure that you pay attention to your labels. During processing, sugar is added to some foods to enhance the texture and flavor.

You can start by taking it slow. If you’re used to taking two sugars in your coffee or tea,  then switch to one sugar until you are taking no sugar at all in those hot beverages.

If you are addicted to drinking lots of sodas, you can switch that out by adding seltzer water to your juices. That should satisfy your fizz craving.

When baking and cooking, reduce the amount of sugar required. Find creative ways to reduce your sugar intake. You could add spices to jazz up the flavor.

It might be difficult when you start at first, but once you begin to reduce your added sugar intake, with these changes, the results will be mind-blowing.
